More than 13% of Niagara County workers are employed in manufacturing fields including advanced manufacturing and green technology. Even more workers are employed in the hospitality and tourism industry and the healthcare industry. The region is awarding an estimated 20,000 college degrees every year in fields such as engineering, business, information technology, health sciences, education, and an array of technical programs. Our workers are also contributing to research in fields such as bioinformatics, medical device technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, robotics, avionics, nanotechnology, and more. The University at Buffalo alone spends nearly $350 million per year on research, much of it through its 160 centers and institutes.
